NYC x Strong
I’m not a doctor, I can’t cure people. But what I can is to inspire them and remind who they are. I love New York, and its people, the power that is there, the feeling that everything is possible, and the freedom it gives, the inspiration. I want to help the city which is suffering the most right now the way I can. The project is made of photos I took when I was in NYC.
Light Therapy
I discovered drawing and painting during covid quarantine – somewhat by accident – as an unexpected way of relieving nighttime anxiety. Instead of lying in bed, staring at the ceiling, and worrying about ‘the state of the world’, I decided one night to get up and try tinkering with drawing and painting as a distraction from sleeplessness. While I’ve never had any formal training, I discovered this solitary nocturnal activity was calming, engaging, and wonderfully therapeutic. I especially love the challenge of trying to capture the balance between light and dark in objects and their surrounding – identifying and mastering how powerful little bits of light discretely find their way onto the surface of objects – and unpacking those things that the eye takes for granted and doesn’t consciously register. Whether it’s how light reflects on the side of a glass to introduce seemingly foreign colors and shapes – or how it can carve out the wrinkled expression of a face and the texture on the surface of elderly skin, I love trying to master this and get it right. There is so much power in these little bits of light and their ability to shape and change an object, the colors within it, and the overall mood it creates. And, I’m grateful for their soporific effects.
Austin Greenbelt Design
The ‘Greenbelt’ is a stretch of public trails and parkland in and around Austin TX that follows a beautiful limestone-filtered, aquamarine stretch of spring-fed creeks, fed by protected aquifers that filter the water for miles and then pump it back out again in the form of springs, most famous being Barton Springs. It’s a gem, and on a non-quarantined summer day you would normally find the waters packed.
OnHoldAtHome: Humble Stories from the Homebound
Inspired by a social distancing gathering, we joined forces to document the lives of people in our neighborhood, collecting stories of fears, hopes and lessons learned.
Postcards from Quarantine
Used to traveling around the world, we have had to close ourselves to it. In times of quarantine we had to said ciao to that beach in Bora Bora and hello to that sofa at home. @postales_de_cuarentena_ are a series of postcards with the most fascinating places on the home planet. Postcartds specially designed to be sent to those people you missed the most during the lockdown.
Mascot Melee
I love sculpting, Celebrity Deathmatch, and college sports, so I figured, “why not combine all three?” Creating these figures is a painstaking process that takes hours, patience, and very steady hands, but when each one is finished, admiring the final product makes it all worth it. Plus, how could I resist a dig at OSU?
