I created Dusty Mei, a small business of hand-crafted concrete projects. I had started it about six months into the worldwide lockdown due to the pandemic. At the time, I was chained to my computer screen working around the clock. I found myself unmotivated and uninspired. Immediately, I looked around for scraps in the garage to make a DIY project, anything that would take me away from the computer. I had made a concrete planter. From there, I was hooked. I was making planters on my breaks and all night long after work. For me, it was an outlet to step away from the corporate world focused on meetings, presentations, and perfectionism. It has allowed me to embrace the beauty of imperfect and be my creative self again.
I was also able to use this company to give back during these tragic times. Since starting my business, I ran two fundraisers donating to PATH, an amazing organization that helps fight homelessness here in California and the World Central Kitchen which has helped fight hunger as well as partnered with local restaurants to help keep their doors open during the pandemic.
Official Company Start Date was November 2019.
