EXPANSION – Lexington’s Psychedelic Experience
EXPANSION is Lexington, KY’s Psychedelic Experience and Music Festival. We pride ourselves on being just as visually-stunning as the music that’s on stage. Lexington has a great, tight-knit creative community of musicians and visual artists and the event gives them both a platform to showcase their work.
Big in the Eighties
Recently, I reconnected with my old friend, next-door neighbor, and songwriting partner from my high school days. Like lots of kids in the ’80s, MTV inspired us to start writing songs and form a band. Naturally, we went nowhere, got “real” jobs, and lost touch after college. During quarantine, he sent me some music he was working on and we collaborated again after more than 30 years. And, since we were raised on MTV, we couldn’t release a song without an accompanying video.
Letter to those who love the people suffering from mental illness
To appreciate those who are there for people who are battling any mental illnesses. One can easily lose his/ herself while trying to encourage someone else to find themselves. This is to encourage those who aren’t battling mental illness to keep taking care of themselves, so we don’t lose more people.

Donald Trump’s attitude of tweet before he speaks has dropped him in hot water on many occasions. After 4 turbulent years in office, Donald Trump’s presidency ended with the blocking of all his social media platforms.

Our idea Helpi Truck, which helps collect unused and unwanted stuff from people to other people in need, was a part of the Young Lions competition submission.

My maternal grandmother asked me to write a memory about her. A Forget Me Not of sorts. But her request meant more than just something I’d scribble on a birthday card. She had dementia.
The Bashful Boys
Have you ever seen a pug in a Halloween costume? It’s cute—but it’s also very, very sad. They look ashamed. Defeated. Embarrassed. For this portrait series, I aimed to portray a few of today’s (seemingly shameless) political figures in an unfamiliar emotional state: that of a pug squeezed into a polyester unicorn straight jacket.
The Game
We took America’s favorite news teleprompter and turned it into a board game. The goal is to read the news without laughing. Other players sabotage a mad-libs-style news story, selecting words & phrases like “gyrating” “undiagnosed drip” and “horny cousin” to get the newscaster to break. It’s just a hoot.
Breaking Curses
Escaping to NYC and moving up the ad industry ladder only heightened my trauma. I had to return to Mississippi to confront just how deep the toxicity can be for a poor, black, gay peripatetic.
