Six Feet One Question

6 Feet 1 Question: What do you miss? This is a short doc filmed in San Francisco during the first easing of Covid-19 Shelter-In-Place restrictions. We wanted to know how changes in our daily lives were effecting our neighbors.

Define Normal

I found everyone around me had similar pandemic experiences – we all went to work now we worked from home. The more I kept hearing the same complaints, the harder I found it to relate to what was happening in the news. My world felt narrow. It also didn’t feel like the whole story.

I wanted to talk to people in different industries to see how they felt about this pandemic and how they were navigating it. In doing so, I discovered a way to process it all rather than let it simply pass by me. It made me realize that something as simple as (and as cliche as) hope can carry people through a lot of challenges.

My Friend, Fern

My Friend, Fern is a passion project short film that cuts to the core that sometimes you find a friend in unexpected places.

Truth be told, my dream is to direct, but I had didn’t have the resources to do so. So I wrote a non-dialogue script (because I couldn’t capture sound), hit up some friends, and spent the better part of a year making this come to life.

It’s Still Being Written

This animated piece is a love letter to my partner that describes how dazzling it feels that our paths crossed and our hearts intertwined.

The scenes depicted through the lens of various events and snapshots of our memories together.

Make America Decent Again

The idea for Partnership For A Trump-Free America was born out of the idea that Trump is a danger to democracy like drugs are a danger for kids. The film parodies the original Monster.com ad to show the unfit role model Trump has bestowed on America and their kids. The social component parodies the Just Say No anti-drug campaign asking the public to Just Say No To Trump.

Space Oddity – The Film

On July 11th, 1969, “Space Oddity”, one of the most remarkable songs of modern times was released. Exactly 50 years later, July 11th 2019, this short film was created to pay tribute to David Bowie and his iconic song. We edited hundreds of hours of NASA footage to bring you our take on Major Tom’s tragic story.

This project is important to me because not only allows me to pay a tribute to this great musician but also shows me that I can achieve a great cinematic narrative with zero budget and without big productions. It’s scrappy without jeopardizing the result.

John McNulty acting reel

I am submitting my acting reel because aside from family and friends acting means the world to me. It is a passion of mine I have had since I was a little boy. I started late in the game but I am a believer in “Better Late Than Never”! I am so incredibly grateful for my job at Mekanism. At Mekanism they encourage us to use our creativity in every possible way and to always let our weird wings fly! Lol. They even allow me to Roller Skate. ☺️????

#UNFIT

I have been creating political cartoons since the 2016 election. Dan Partland, the film director, had seen my work and wanted my style of illustration and animation to set the tone of the film.

I don’t think there is anything more important than to take a long, hard and clear-eyed look at the leadership in the United States right now.

Stoop Symphony

Feeling isolated due to Covid-19, cellist Saul Richmond-Rakerd began playing for passerby from his San Francisco stoop. He never expected that he’d inspire a community to come together, but that’s exactly what happened.

I was interested in telling a story about connection, that showed the triumph of creativity in the face of challenge. Saul’s beautiful music inspired me, along with an entire community, to feel optimistic about the hardships we’re all dealing with.

Lego Rivals

“Ever since a second car was built, there has been racing. Two fierce rivals collide on the path to victory, only one can win the Grand Prix.”

I wanted to experiment with a higher frame rate to increase the impact in the scenes in order to achieve a more competitive and engaging race. This project was my first experiment in animating stop motion at 24 frames per second.

The higher frame rate allowed the cars to feel as though they were going faster and some of the collisions more impactful.
