We hacked Instagram’s save button, and turned it into a symbol to help give more visibility to the indigenous people of the Amazon.
Amidst the context of an unfair Brazilian law that takes away land ownership rights of the Amazon’s natives, we decided to take a stand using what we know best: Instagram.
Our goal? Give more visibility to these natives, by hacking a button that everyone sees on the platform, but rarely uses – the save button.
Our insight came when we learned that saving a post is more relevant to Instagram’s algorithm than liking a post. This was the springboard for our idea.
We simply asked Instagram users to save posts featuring indigenous content and share with #SavedFlags. On top of that, we collaborated with native photographers who captured real moments of indigenous people with our symbol painted on their bodies, resulting in beautiful snapshots for the cause.
Influencers joined in, including an indigenous Emmy winner and many NGOs took part in the project, making it not only go viral, but tribal. 💚
